This past week has been so busy, but full of so many good times! As Theatreworks wound down a couple weeks ago theatre for the whole year came to an end. I feel the shows were a success as we put on a good show and created some laughter! After two nights of one acts Holy Cow! Improv put on their final show of the year, which was hugely hilarious! Though it is nice to now have a little bit more free time in my schedule, this year's theatre season was very enjoyable for me as I took part in several of the plays we put on. Now, time for a new year and several new shows!Kristi Hayes and I backstage the last night of Theatreworks!
Beyond the arts, the past couple of weeks have been full of homework, classes, projects, papers and protests! That's right, last Tuesday was the annual Take Back the Night rally, this year hosted by UMKC. Take Back the Night focuses on informing the community and talking out about sexual violence towards women as well as men. Last year the event
was hosted at Rockhurst and Andrea Cooper came and spoke about the acquaintance rape and subsequent suicide of her daughter. This year a few students along with Katie Bennett, Assistant Director of Student Life at Rockhurst, walked over to UMKC's Women's Center to participate in the march. We had a short picnic and then marched throughout the school's campus and down to the Plaza where we listened to various speakers. My favorite chant from the night was"Yes means Yes/No means No/Whatever we wear/Wherever we go." I felt the night was very memorable and significant for the community, and I was glad to participate.A previous year's Take Back the Night.
As it is the last full week of classes, it is time to finish those papers and start the grueling task of studying for finals!
