Rockin' Rockhurst

This past Saturday night Rockhurst University and UMKC, located across the street, came together to host the one and only Ben Folds at a free concert for students! The past month or so Rockhurst has been eagerly presenting and promoting the concert and the 1000 free tickets they had available for students. Some people even lined up the night before they started giving them away to secure their spots! Luckily, even those less motivated were able to get a ticket, as they even had some left over from students to gain a guest pass. This enabled my sister, a recent Rockhurst grad and huge Ben Folds fan, to get into the concert for free! The actual show was held at the Sweeney Recreation Center on the UMKC campus and included openers such as Black Violin. The show was very fun and very high energy, as Mr. Folds sure knows how to put on a concert! This was a pretty exciting event for Rockhurst, as several students have been trying to get SAB (Student Activities Board) to book Ben Folds for Rockstock for years! It was nice to have such a big name act at a Rockhurst event, and it's exciting to see what future musical talents will be showcased at Rockhurst and at joint RU and UMKC events in the future. For now on the entertainment front there is Rockstock to look forward to, as well as Theatreworks and Holy Cow! Improv shows in the coming weeks. Even though theatre isn't always as high tempo and thrilling as live music, it will still be plenty entertaining! The end of this semester is so full of tests, papers and projects for me that all the free student opportunities really provide a great break and give me something to look forward to!
